2012 High School Visual Arts Competition Winners

In its 9th year, the Visual Arts Competition (VAC), sponsored by The Orinda Arts Council (OAC), provided nearly a 120 high school students the opportunity to publicly exhibit their art and submit their work for judging by an esteemed panel of accomplished, professional artists.

At the Artists & Awards Reception on March 7th, the OAC proudly announced its winners in the categories of 2D, 3D and Photographic Art:

2D Winners:

1st Place - Kathleen Devlin, 12th Grade, Contra Costa Christian
2nd Place - Hailey Westphal, 12th Grade, Acalanes
3rd Place (Tie) - Erica Howland, 12th Grade, Campolindo & Natalie Korich, 12th Grade, Campolindo

2D Honorable Mentions:

The viewers' choice award, "Best of Show," went to Mary Youm, 12th grade, Campolindo. Both viewers' and judges' votes were tabulated in determining the "Best in Show" Award.

Judges for this year included, 2D- Greg Piatt, Tom Taneyhill, Betty Rothaus; 3D-Linda Fleming, Doug Heine, Alexander MacLeitch, Jack da Silva; and Photography-Dave Dondero, Christopher Nickel, Scott McCue.

Guests at the March 7th Artists & Awards Reception enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres, delectable cupcakes, and live music provided by the high school musicians of the Altarinda Jazz Band: Philip Hoxie (bass), Bryant Chow (keyboards), and Drew Dowling, (drums).

The VAC was co-sponsored this year by Mechanics Bank, the Educational Foundation of Orinda (EFO), Moraga Educational Foundation (MEF), and Lafayette Partners in Education (LPIE).

Gallery Details

Entries accepted for the 2012 High School Student Visual Arts Competiton will be on display for public viewing at the Orinda Library Art Gallery, 24 Orinda Way, from March 2 - 28th.

Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday, 10am to 8pm; Friday and Saturday, 10am to 6pm; and Sunday 1pm to 5pm.
