About The Orinda Arts Council
Mission & History
Founded in 1950, The Orinda Arts Council has been stimulating, supporting, and advocating for the visual and performing arts in the schools and community for the last sixty years.
Currently, key activities of the OAC include:
- Supporting the OUSD and AUHSD with up to $15,000 a year for classroom visual arts and after-school performing arts programs, including:
~ Providing 1st & 2nd Grade Art Books and 3rd Grade Sketchbooks for every OUSD student
~ Grants to the OIS Bulldog Theater Co., as well as the Miramonte and OUSD spring musicals
~ Awards sponsorship of the Lamorinda Unified Film Festival (LAUFF) - Organizing and funding the annual Visual Arts Competition for Lamorinda high school students
- Organizing and funding the annual Orinda Idol Competition for Lamorinda K-12 students
- Supporting and facilitating the annual OUSD Arts Ambassadors Exhibit & Reception in the Orinda Library Art Gallery
- Coordinating the hanging of artwork by prestigious local artists in the Orinda Library Art Gallery and student artwork in the Children's Area
- Participating on Orinda's Art in Public Places Committee
- Partnering with and supporting community arts organizations, including the Pacific Chamber Symphony and the California Independent Film Festival
Important historical efforts of the OAC include:
- Supporting the opening of the new Orinda Community Center in 1973
- Contributing to the Orinda Community Center Ampitheater built in 1983
- Donating $25,000 to the new Orinda Library opened in 2001
- Advocating for the addition of the Orinda Library Art Gallery and Orinda Library Auditorium to the new Orinda Library
- Advocating for hiring of the OUSD Arts Coordinator
- Instituting the Arts Integration Program at the Orinda Intermediate School
- Receiving the Orinda Association's 2011 Volunteer of the Year Award
